Our bodies are composed of a marvelous interconnected highway of cells, tissues, and organs that work together to protect you from everyday challenges.  Our immune system acts as a force field to handle life’s demands and keeps us healthy.  The immune system often breaks down when that force field weakens when we are challenged with poor nutrition, stress, lack of sleep, and toxin exposures.

Ways to Naturally Boost Your Immune System

Prioritize Balanced Nutrition

Having the proper diet is the foundation for overall wellness.  If you think of your car, when you place bad fuel into the tank, it will sputter down the highway.  It is the same for our bodies.  Eating a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables, healthy fats,  lean protein and whole grains can provide your body with the essential nutrients. A nutrient-dense diet provides the building blocks your immune system needs to function properly.

Unfortunately, most of our food is over processed and/or filled with toxin chemicals that destroy our gut microbiome.  Know the source of where your food comes from.  The Environmental Working Group (EWG) released it’s Clean Fifteen and Dirty Dozen lists for 2025. Nearly 75% of conventionally grown produce tested by the USDA has pesticide residue and 96% of food on the Dirty Dozen list carried multiple toxic chemicals even after washing.

  2. Strawberries

Honorable Mention: Bell & Hot Peppers and Green Beans

According to the EWG, almost 60% of the fruit and vegetable samples in the list have no detectable pesticide residues, and only 16% had residues of two or more pesticides. In addition, those in the Top 6 did not have residues of more than three particles.

Stay Hydrated

Water plays a vital role in your body’s detoxification process. Stying hydrated helps your body eliminate toxins and supports the function of your immune system.

Get Quality Sleep

Sleep is crucial for immune health.  The average adult human needs  7-9 hours of restorative sleep each night to allow their body to repair and regenerate. Keep in mind, certain age groups need more or less. So, it is okay to sleep in, take a nap and restore and recharge your body!

  • Newborns to 12 months: 12-16 hours
  • 1-3 years: 12-14 hours
  • 3-10 years: 10-13 hours
  • 11-17 years: 9-10 hours
  • 18-50 years: 7-8 hours
  • 50-80 years: 10-11 hours
  • 80+: 12-14 hours

Manage Stress

Chronic stress can weaken your immune system. Practice mindfulness, deep breathing, relaxing yoga, and spend time in nature to help reduce stress.  Create a “Joy List” and do those things that bring you joy when life get overwhelming.

Move Your Body

Regular physical activity can boost your immune system by promoting optimal circulation, allowing your blood and lymph drainage to move through the body freely.

Reduce Toxic Load

Alcohol consumption, smoking, poor air quality, and artificial fragrances can impair the immune function. Reducing or eliminating these risk factors can improve your body’s natural defense mechanisms.
